CLEARWATER, Fla. — Prosecutors dropped the manslaughter charge for the man who detectives in Clearwater said stabbed and killed his daughter during a fight with her boyfriend.

51-year-old Laurence Green has also been released from Pinellas County Jail.

“The state attorney, having taken testimony under oath at a state attorney investigation, concludes that the facts and circumstances revealed do not warrant prosecution at this time,” Carlos Licona, Assistant State Attorney, wrote in a June 10 court filing.

Clearwater police initially charged Green with manslaughter in the death of his 22-year-old daughter Sidney Green back in May.

Laurence was armed with a knife during a fight with Sidney's boyfriend when she tried to get in between the men, resulting in her being stabbed, investigators said.

Officers say they were called to the apartment complex and found Sidney suffering from stab wounds. She was taken to Morton Plant Hospital where she later died, a police spokesperson said at the time.
