JSO identifies officer in police-involved shooting on the Northside

JSO said Officer K.L. Semones fired eight times at a suspect who fled the scene in the 9200 block of Lem Turner Road near Soutel Drive.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office identified the officer who fired at a suspect during an undercover investigation on the Northside.

JSO said Officer K.L. Semones fired eight times at a suspect who fled the scene in the 9200 block of Lem Turner Road near Soutel Drive.

The incident happened at 9 p.m. and started as an undercover investigation to bust suspects in a string of robberies.

Police said eight robberies happened over the course of 48 hours and all started over social media.

The robbery suspects would reportedly use account name "Mike Brown 23" on sites like OfferUp, Facebook Marketplace and Letgo to lure victims to a location to be robbed.

The robbery victims described the suspects to police as two men armed with handguns, JSO said.

During the investigation on Lem Turner near Soutel Drive, officers said two men matching the description of the suspects began to approach.

Semones and another officer then exited a vehicle and told the men to get down on the ground.

One suspect immediately obeyed and was taken in custody. JSO said that suspect had a handgun in his possession.

JSO said the second suspect fled on foot and during the chase, an officer could be heard yelling "gun!"

That's when Semones fired eight times, striking the suspect multiple times.

JSO said the suspect remains in stable condition at UF Health.

Semones has been with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for three years and this marks his first officer-involved shooting, according to police. Semones was in a crash involving a JSO vehicle back in 2017, according to his file.

Semones has been placed on paid administrative leave. No charges have been filed yet in the case. JSO did not release the names of the two suspects in the case.

JSO warns that citizens making transactions via social media should use caution and conduct in-person transactions during the day at regular business hours. In-person transactions can also be conducted in front of the Police Memorial Building anytime at 501 East Bay Street.
