Uncle charged with murder of missing pregnant Terry Parker High School teen, her unborn child: family attorney

Johnathon Quiles is the lone suspect in the disappearance of 16-year-old pregnant niece, Iyana Sawyer.

Johnathan Quiles, the uncle of a missing pregnant Terry Parker High School student, has been charged with her murder and the murder of her unborn baby on Thursday, according to the family's attorney, John M. Phillips.

Records by the State Attorney's Office says Quiles, 33, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of sexual battery.

Quiles is the lone suspect in the disappearance of his 16-year-old pregnant niece, Iyana Sawyer, who was last seen on Dec. 19 leaving Terry Parker High School.

Quiles was arrested for an alleged sexual battery that occurred Dec. 12, 2017 in the 1500 block of 16th Street East on Jacksonville's Eastside.

On Thursday, Phillips released the following statement on behalf of the family:

"It’s been months of rumors and speculation, hoping she’d come home and then landfill searches and the worst days a family could ever live through. They still do not have the answers they seek because too many people associated with the case are talking about the case and justice starts with a conviction.

We are communicating directly with the State Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Office about the case and appreciate their dedicated service, including searching through landfills. The family has no further comment at this time."
