BLACKSHEAR, Ga. — A suspect is in a Jacksonville hospital with a gunshot wound after an officer-involved shooting in Blackshear, Georgia Wednesday afternoon.
The Blackshear Police Department said the shooting occurred Wednesday around 12:52 p.m. when a deputy encountered a suspect with an outstanding warrant from another county.
According to the police department, the suspect was wanted for a burglary where firearms were reported stolen.
The Blackshear Police Department said when the deputy confronted the suspect, shots were fired.
The suspect then reportedly fled to a motel about two blocks from the shooting.
He was eventually found inside a motel room with a gunshot wound and transported to a hospital in Jacksonville.
The Blackshear Police Department is expected to release more details shortly.
