One person dead, another hospitalized after shooting on the Westside near Murray Hill

One person is dead and another is in stable condition after a shooting on the Westside near Murray Hill.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — One man was killed and one person was rushed to a hospital after a shooting on the Westside near the Murray Hill area Sunday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at 5000 Quan Drive at 6:40 p.m.

Once at the scene, officers found a man in his mid-20s lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. JSO said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the same time, JSO said officers spotted a white SUV at a closed business in the 5800 block of Lenox Avenue. When officers approached the vehicle, the driver of the SUV fled on foot and was taken into custody after a short pursuit, according to police. 

One person inside the vehicle was found to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. That victim was rushed to a local hospital and is in stable condition, police said. 

JSO said the SUV is believed to be involved in the shooting on Quan Drive.

Officers are speaking to witnesses at the scene and are still working to determine a motive.

JSO asks that any residents or businesses with security cameras in the area review footage taken between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
