Downtown Jacksonville Hyatt Hotel guests locked down after shooting in restaurant restroom

JSO said two people were shot inside the restroom of Morton's Steakhouse connected to hotel.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two people were shot Saturday night inside a restroom at Morton's Steakhouse connected to the Hyatt hotel downtown Saturday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO could only provide a vague description of the suspect and is still investigating whether he knew either of the two victims.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital for surgery. One of the victims was in critical condition, police said. The condition of the other victim is unclear, but police said they are not in critical condition.

JSO said investigators are going through surveillance video and asking anyone who may have cellphone video to come forward.

Christian Bock and his fiancé were staying at the hotel to celebrate their engagement when he witnessed the commotion outside.

"Instantly there were ambulances, fire trucks, police cars. I mean it was crazy. And then they locked us in the room. They came over the intercom and told us to stay where we were," Bock continued, "Literally the whole lobby was crime scene tape."

Hotel guests were asked to stay in their rooms for about an hour according to JSO.

Anyone with information is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).
