15-year-old among three people shot at Westside basketball court

Three people, including the 15-year-old, were found shot at the basketball court. The teen was the youngest victim.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A 15-year-old is expected to be OK after shots were fired at a basketball court on the Westside Sunday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police were called to the scene at 6602 Richardson Rd. at 12:15 p.m. Once at the scene, officers saw multiple people fleeing the park. Three people, including the 15-year-old, were found shot at the basketball court. The teen was the youngest victim and the oldest was 38 years old.

Two of the victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The teen was treated for a graze wound on his ankle, according to police.

Witnesses reported seeing a male come through the woodline near the entrance to the park, pointing a pistol at the basketball courts. He then began firing, witnesses said.

The shooting remains under investigation. JSO does not know if it was a targeted shooting.
