Police chase ends with wrong-way crash in St. Augustine; 2 suspects in custody

The incident started when deputies responded to a call that a car was being broken into at Anytime Fitness located at 4010 US-1.

A police chase in which the suspects drove the wrong way down a major highway ended with a crash in St. Augustine on Thursday, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

The incident started when deputies responded to a call that a car was being broken into at Anytime Fitness located at 4010 US-1. 

When deputies arrived on the scene two suspects, later identified by police as Quanisha Bryant, 22, and Rickain Johnson, 23, fled north in their vehicle down US-1. 

Deputies were able to pull the car over but as they went to approach the vehicle Johnson took off driving the wrong way down the highway.

The St. Augustine Police Department soon joined the chase, which continued until the suspects collided with another vehicle on 1010 S. Ponce de Leon Blvd.

The St. Johns County Fire and Rescue Department transported one person to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects were taken into custody and face multiple charges.

An investigation is still ongoing into the crash and the initial car burglary that started it all.
