Man who confessed to murdering his wife sentenced to 50 years in prison

An engagement ring was found at the scene where Chason was detained.

A man was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Monday for the murder of his wife last year in Bartram Park.

Wilford Chason pled guilty to the second-degree murder of his wife, 40-year-old Jennifer Herbert, on Feb. 13. During his sentencing on Monday, Chason was mostly silent but did express remorse.

Back in October, Chason, 50, was Baker Acted after Flagler deputies responded to reports of a suicidal person on I-95 South. Chason was hospitalized for self-inflicted lacerations to his arms, neck and other parts of his body.

After being taken to Halifax hospital, he allegedly told Flagler deputies that he had murdered Jennifer Herbert and left her body in their home. An engagement ring was found at the scene where Chason was detained.

Police say that Chason and Herbert were married, but a friend of the two says they were only engaged.
