FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — A man is in serious condition after he was shot at least three times behind a convenience store in Fernandina Beach early Sunday morning, according to the Fernandina Beach Police Department.
Officers were called to the scene in the area of 1303 Jasmine St. at 12:47 a.m.
Once there, officers found the victim, Ernest Roberts Jr., at the scene. Police said Roberts was shot while walking home on South 13th Terrace after making a purchase at the nearby convenience store.
Roberts was airlifted to a Jacksonville hospital where he remains in serious condition, police said.
Police said a motive for the shooting is unknown and no suspects have been named.
