A man has been pronounced dead after being driven to a local hospital with a gunshot wound Sunday morning in the Springfield area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police said officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East 16th Street around 1:50 a.m. in response to shots fired.
While officers were heading to the area, police were informed that a man who had been shot arrived at a local hospital, JSO said.
Police said that the man was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officers determined via an investigation that the man was the victim that was shot in the area of the 100 block of East 16th Street.
Detectives are speaking with the people who transported the victim to the hospital and are currently canvassing the area looking for witnesses and video.
Police have obtained a search warrant for the vehicle that the victim was transported to the hospital inside.
