Man charged with attempted homicide after crashing car into St. Johns County home

Darrin Dewayne Touchton, 58, remains hospitalized and in custody after police say he intentionally crashed his Nissan Maxima into a home in St. Augustine Shores.

A man is facing multiple charges including attempted homicide Sunday after St. Johns deputies say he crashed his car into a home while attempting to mow down another person.

Darrin Dewayne Touchton, 58, remains hospitalized and in custody after he crashed his Nissan Maxima into a home in St. Augustine Shores.

Touchton had previously been in a relationship with the homeowner, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, and did not approve of the homeowner's male guest at the house.

The suspect saw the man with another male friend in the front yard and accelerated his car towards the two in an attempt to kill the individual, deputies say.

The car missed the two men by a foot, crashing through the home.

Deputies say Touchton had previously threatened to kill the victim by striking him with his car.

Both victims suffered minor injuries but Touchton was taken to an area hospital due to an unrelated condition, according to deputies.

Along with attempted homicide, Touchton also faces three counts of aggravated assault and driving on a suspended drivers license.

As of 9 p.m. Sunday, Touchton remains hospitalized.
