A man is being charged after deputies say he fled from them, threw a gun out of the window and crashed into several vehicles.
Christian Alexander Melendez, 19, is being charged with aggravated fleeing with injury, leaving the scene of a crash, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office says that on Sunday a deputy observed a silver Ford Mustang stopped diagonally on Belle Terre Parkway in Palm Coast around 3 p.m.
As the deputy approached the vehicle, they say that the Mustang began to travel at inconsistent speeds and failed to maintain a single lane. The deputy says they attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the Mustang fled and accelerated rapidly.
Deputies say they observed a shiny object thrown from the vehicle which was later identified as a handgun. Deputies tracked the Mustang, without pursuing it, throughout Palm Coast where it crashed into several vehicles and eventually lost the rear bumper on Interstate 95 Southbound.
Deputies were able to locate the vehicle, abandoned, at an apartment complex located in Daytona Beach. Numerous narcotics were observed inside the vehicle and it was impounded for evidence.
