Police: 19-year-old shot in chest near Jacksonville University expected to be ok

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 19-year-old is recovering in the hospital after a shooting near Jacksonville University Thursday afternoon, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Around 3:24 p.m., police were called out to the 3200 block of University Boulevard North for a reported shooting.

While investigating, police discovered a fight broke out between five men and ended in gunfire, JSO said. Witnesses told police they heard two gunshots.

Meanwhile, police were also called out to the 6400 block of Ft. Caroline Road where a man showed up to a family care center with a gunshot wound to the chest, JSO said. The man, identified as the 19-year-old, was then transported to the hospital and is expected to be ok.

Police say they believe he is connected to the shooting, but is not cooperating with authorities.

Authorities are now searching for a possible suspect vehicle, which is a silver SUV.
