The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has arrested three people, including one person who was already in custody on unrelated charges, in connection with a December 2018 murder.

Police said that on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, officers responded to the 4300 block of Napoli Road after reports of a person shot.

Upon reaching the scene, police found a man, identified as Duane Gerald Lanter, 57, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries on Dec. 19, police said.

JSO said that on the evening of the shooting, Jessica Leigh Williams, 37, who worked at an adult entertainment business, was hanging out with Derik Lawrence McMillan, 26, and James Gates III, 27. Williams then met up with Lanter to have a short conversation. Shortly after the conversation, Williams and Lanter left the adult entertainment business, police said.

Williams then returned to the business a short time later and had a conversation with McMillan and Gates in the parking lot. The three left the business in an undisclosed vehicle to meet up with Lanter to sell him drugs, JSO said.

Williams and Gates entered Lanter's home. While inside the home, police said Lanter was shot by Gates. Williams, Gates and McMillan then fled the scene.

JSO said that Gates and Williams were arrested for the murder of Lanter and McMillan, who was already arrested for unrelated charges, has been charged with accessory after the fact in the murder of Lanter.
