Jacksonville police officer fatally shoots man who reportedly sprayed him in face with unknown substance

A Jacksonville police officer fatally shot a man Friday night outside a Walmart on the Northside after he allegedly sprayed the officer in the face with a substance.

A Jacksonville police officer fatally shot a man Friday night who allegedly sprayed him in the face with an unknown substance outside a Walmart on the city’s Northside.

Officer S. Dorcelian fired three shots killing the man about 10:40 p.m. outside the store, 13200 City Square Drive, at River City Marketplace, T.K. Waters, chief of investigation for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, said following the shooting.

Dorcelian wasn’t injured, he said.

The Sheriff’s Office hasn’t released the name of the man killed.

Waters said the shooting happened after police went to the Walmart to investigate a reported disturbance inside the store.

He said a man, who was seen with a weapon, was making store employees uncomfortable. He refused to leave after being asked to get out, Waters said.
