2 in custody after shooting leads to 13-mile chase in Sandalwood area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Two people are in custody following a shooting in the Sandalwood area Friday.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called out to the 3600 block of Kernan Boulevard South around 1:15 p.m. in reference to the shooting. While responding, the dispatcher told officers that a person in his 20s was shot and a white Honda sedan may have been involved.

Police say they spotted a vehicle matching the description and began to pursue it. While doing so, the vehicle began to flee the scene, police say.

A pursuit lasted for 13 miles until the vehicle crashed into a tree at 8709 Hogan Rd. There were two young males in the vehicle, ages 16 to 20, that were taken into custody.

JSO's Aggravated Battery and Crime Scene Units are now investigating.

No other details were released at this time.
