Federal fugitive arrested at St. Augustine Beach hotel

The U.S. Marshals Service went to the St. Augustine Beach Pier in response to reports of a federal fugitive in the area.

A federal fugitive was arrested in a hotel in St. Augustine Beach Monday, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

The spokesperson for the sheriff's office, Chuck Mulligan, told First Coast News that the U.S. Marshals Service went to the St. Augustine Beach Pier in response to reports of a federal fugitive in the area.

The report initially came from the St. Augustine Beach Police Department after a K9 officer identified the individual with a felony warrant, according to Robert Hardwick, the chief of the St. Augustine Beach Police Department. Hardwick said he was wanted on a weapons offense.

Once confronted, the man fled to the Embassy Suites by Hilton at 300 A1A Beach Blvd. where he was arrested shortly after, Mulligan said.

Nobody was hurt during this incident.

Mulligan said they didn't have any other information about the arrest, including the name of the fugitive.
