Person dead following deputy-involved shooting in Orange Park

During a press conference, Sheriff Michelle Cook said that there were no deputies injured during the incident, however, one person did die.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — One person is dead following a deputy-involved shooting in Orange Park Wednesday night, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred near Blanding Boulevard and Fillmore Road sometime before 8:45 p.m., deputies say.

During a press conference, Sheriff Michelle Cook said that there were no deputies injured during the incident, however, one person did die.

That person's name was not released by deputies.

Cook said that the initial call originated in the Orange Park area and that at some point during the call, deputies became involved and were brought over.

Cook said that deputies are in the beginning stages of the investigation and that additional information will be released pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was called in to assist in the investigation, and will be the primary agency for new details regarding this case.
