A 17-year-old girl has been charged with aggravated child abuse Friday after witnesses told Nassau County deputies they saw a dog dragging a baby throughout a yard.

Deputies were called out to a Yulee residence after witnesses reported seeing a baby being dragged on the ground with the dog's leash tangled around her neck, according to the arrest report.

Witnesses told deputies that they tried to help the baby, but the dog wouldn't let anyone near her so they began beating the windows and doors of the home for help.

They told deputies that the teen came out of the home and brought the baby back inside. She reportedly called her boyfriend's mother for help, but never called 911, according to deputies.

When deputies arrived, they said they saw the teen exit the home holding the baby, who was covered in blood. The baby also had puncture wounds on her cheek and buttocks, as well as cuts covering her whole body, according to deputies.

Deputies said there was a "very large" bull mastiff in the yard of the home and that the baby's cuts were consistent with being dragged around.

The child was wearing only a pink short sleeve T-shirt. She wasn't wearing diapers, shoes and pants, according to the arrest report.

The baby was taken to Baptist North Medical Campus. The condition of the baby isn't known at this time.

The Department of Children and Families (DCF) and Animal Control were also involved in the case.

The teen was transported to the Nassau County jail where she was interviewed by DCF.

Authorities did not identify the teen's relationship with the baby.
