Camden Co. woman to serve 20 yrs in prison after child found dead in hot car last year

Odum has been sentenced to serve 20 years in prison followed by ten years of probation.

The mother of a child who died in a hot car last year was sentenced Wednesday after she was found guilty of second-degree murder, according to District Attorney Jackie Johnson.

Rhae Odum, 29, was charged after her 1-year-old son Slade Edison Horne died in Kingsland, Ga. on June 19, 2018, after being left in a hot car for multiple hours.

Johnson said that Slade died of hyperthermia after he was left unattended in a car on a hot summer's day.

When Odum found Slade unresponsive she then went to The Quality Inn on Robert L Edenfield Dr. and tried to get help but it was too late.

Odum has been sentenced to serve 20 years in prison followed by ten years of probation. After her release, Odum is to not have unsupervised contact with any minors.
