A bicyclist died Saturday night after being struck by a truck that fled the scene, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on U.S. 17, north of Lankford Avenue, near the Nassau County Line.

An unknown black or dark navy blue newer model pickup truck was traveling south on U.S. 17 when it struck a motorized bike that was traveling in the same direction, FHP said.

The bicyclist was knocked off of the bike and into the road as the truck left the scene and continued driving south on U.S. 1, FHP said

FHP said that another vehicle then struck the bicyclist and bike.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.

FHP believes that the truck that caused the initial crash could possibly have damage to the front right of the vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact FHP at 904-695-400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
