Teenager dead, 2 injured in two overnight shooting incidents in Jacksonville

Among those shot was a teenage boy, who was shot multiple times and later pronounced dead.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Sunday morning marked yet another violent weekend in Jacksonville after three people were shot in two separate incidents, leaving one of them dead.

At 2 a.m., officers responded to a shooting call in the 1500 block of East 19th Street near Kooker Park, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. When they arrived, they found a teenage male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and a teenage female suffering from minor injuries.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pronounced the male dead, JSO said. They took the girl to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. It's believed she was grazed by a bullet.

Investigators believe the two teenagers were walking with a group when a silver sedan drove up and someone opened fire, JSO said. The shooter fled in an unknown direction.

About one hour later, police responded to another shooting incident in the 15000 block of Lexington Park Boulevard on the Northside, according to JSO.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from three gunshots in the arm. Those injuries are non-life-threatening, according to police.

Investigators believe three men are responsible for the shooting. After opening fire, they fled in a blue truck.

Both shootings remain under investigation at this time.

If anyone has any information on either shooting, they are urged to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or email jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org.
