Watch: Local teacher goes viral using dance to teach long division

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Students at La Core Christian Elementary School are learning math and having fun at the same time.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Students at La Core Christian Elementary School are learning math and having fun at the same time.

Earlier this week, a video of students in one class practicing long division went viral - with a Facebook video garnering over 5 million views.

“My students are very lively,” said Nadine Ebri, a fourth grade teacher at the school - and the creator of the video.

“There was one day we were working on long division,” said Ze’yaria Dun, one of the video's stars.

“Somebody started beating on the table. That is when we started to make it into a song,” said Clarence Stringfield, another of the video's stars.

Ebri’s mother was a teacher and inspired her to teach. Growing up, like a lot of us, Ebri did not like math. So as she teaches her students, she finds ways to make learning fun. After seeing her students loved the division song, she posted a video on Facebook.

“I think it is fun to learn things in different ways because you get to have fun in different ways," said Stringfield.

“My class is awesome so it makes it easier for me to learn." said Dun.

Ebri says, for every student to learn and succeed, you have to teach in different ways.

“Times are changing and you have to change with the kids," she said. "So I try to integrate songs with everything that I do, especially with math because a lot of students struggle with math. So I think it is imperative to integrate music with math.”
