MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — Captain Marvel star Lashana Lynch did some preparation at Luke Air Force Base last year for her breakout role.
Lynch is playing U.S. Air Force pilot Maria Rambeau, who is the best friend of Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel.
To get ready for her role, Lynch spent some time with the 310th Fighter Squadron “Top Hats” in April last year. She shadowed two female fighter pilots at Luke Air Force Base.
She even got a feel for soaring through the air in a fighter jet when Squadron Commander Lt. Col. Kristin “Mother” Hubbard took Lynch for a flight in an F16.
“The best day ever,” Lynch said with a smile as she got out of the jet.
The Air Force hopes their support will ensure that the service branch is accurately represented in Captain Marvel and maybe encourage moviegoers to sign up, a spokesperson for the base said.
The spokesperson said the Air Force often establishes production agreements with studios at no cost to the taxpayers for Department of Defense approved projects like this.
