For the second day in a row, police are dealing with two shooting incidents that left at least one person dead as gun violence continues, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The first shooting incident was reported at about 11:20 p.m. Thursday in the 10600 block of East Pine Estates Road in the Highlands community of the city’s Northside, the Sheriff’s office said.
Responding officers found two people had been shot, the Sheriff’s Office said. Firefighters called to the scene pronounced one of them, a woman, dead from at least one gunshot wound, police said, The second victim, an unidentified man, was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with multiple gunshot wounds, no condition available from the Sheriff’s Office yet.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The second shooting was reported just after midnight Friday, when officers were dispatched to the Cocktails Showbar at 1553 Lane Ave. S. in reference to a report of someone shot in front of the business, the Sheriff’s Office said. Officers arrived at the Westside business to find an unresponsive man with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Taken to the hospital, the man underwent surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition early Friday morning. Police believe the shooting occurred in the bar parking lot.
The victims in both cases have not been identified yet, and neither incident is connected, police said.
Thursday morning also saw two separate shooting incidents, which left three people dead at apartment complexes in Arlington and the city’s Westside.
One man was shot dead about 6 a.m. in a unit at the Shore House apartment complex in the 401 Century 21 Drive after what was initially called out as a robbery with injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said. Investigators were also called out a shooting that left two men dead at the Magnolia Terrace complex at 2045 Jammes Road on the Westside.
