22-year-old dies after being struck by vehicle in Jacksonville Beach

Police say 31-year-old Joshua Lamar Lovingood struck and killed a pedestrian and then struck a tree Thursday night.

A 22-year-old from South Carolina died in Jacksonville Beach Thursday night after he was struck by a vehicle, according to the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.

The police department identified the pedestrian as Bryn Turner from South Carolina.

Officers say around 11:54 p.m., the driver of the vehicle, identified as 31-year-old Joshua Lamar Lovingood of Jacksonville, was driving southbound in the 800 block of Second Street North and struck Turner in the roadway. Turner died at the scene.

After Lovingood struck Turner, he continued south and struck a tree in the 600 block of Second Street North and eventually stopped near the intersection of Fifth Avenue North and Second Street North, police say.

Lovingood was not injured. Police suspect speed and alcohol played a factor. They say charges are pending.

First Coast News has learned that Lovinggood has had two prior D.U.I charges, a history of traffic penalties and is considered a habitual traffic offender by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
