First of all, when you book, especially if you like to call the company directly, make sure to actually ask for discounts: Are you in AAA, are you a veteran, teacher? Any of those things can qualify you for a potential discount, so make sure you ask.
Second, review your own personal car insurance to make sure it’ll cover your rental as well. Most of the time it does. And if that is the case, then generally, you should decline the extra insurance that they’re always going to offer you at the desk. You can save a lot of money by saying no to that.
Quick tip: Make sure you fill-up the gas off property, don’t choose the prepay option, unless you just really want to spend way more on a tank of gas.
And lastly, it can be cheaper to rent a car off the airport property. There are plenty of rental car companies around towns, they’re not always at the airport. Generally, the airport rental car companies have to pay the airport for space they’re in, and that means you have to pay for it too.
