WAYCROSS, Ga.—Gainesville's 'Basketball cop' headed up to Georgia on Friday to present a basketball hoop and some balls to the Waycross Police Department. Why? To help Waycross PD better engage the community.

According to a release from Waycross Police, Officer Bobby White of GPD contacted them to see if they'd want a hoop and some balls after he heard about their activities, including Kid's Fun Day and the Boys Camps.

White won the heart of the First Coast - and the nation - when he responded to a noise complaint by playing basketball with a group of neighborhood kids instead of yelling at them. His hashtag, #HoopsNotCrime went viral.

Some big stars in basketball even made the trek down to Gainesville to continue the community outreach, including perennial NBA all-star Shaq and Harlem Globetrotter Buckets Blakes.
