San Francisco-based Chubbies apparel store opened its first Jacksonville location on May 10 at the St. Johns Town Center.

The company was started in 2011 by four Sanford college friends to encompass the "Friday at five" feeling. It gained popularity online and expanded to brick-and-mortar space with 12 locations around the country. The store is known for its men's shorts and swimwear, though it also carries shirts, pullovers, underwear and loungewear as well as apparel for women and children.

The 2,000-square-foot Jacksonville location is located next to Vans and across from Pink.

“We are excited to welcome Chubbies to St. Johns Town Center,” said Town Center general manager Valerie Beaubrun. “The brand exemplifies a laid-back Florida lifestyle that the Jacksonville community can relate to. We love the fun, easy-going aesthetic that Chubbies brings to our retail lineup.”

The store is one of several new retailers at the Town Center, which has also welcomed Fabletics, Warby Parker, Sur La Table and more in recent months. The Town Center has become the epicenter for shopping in North Florida, and it's also spurring growth in nearby submarkets. Click here to read more on how the center's popularity has spread.
