Jacksonville's favorite food festival, GastroFest, is back this Saturday

Unlike past years, this year's event is cash only.

Jacksonville's favorite food festival is back this weekend, but unlike past years, this one is going to be a cash-only event.

This year's event will be held on Saturday, March 23 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Friendship Fountain.

There will be more than 20 restaurants offering samples from their food and drink menus, including a brand new restaurant headed to Five Points, Taqueria Cinco. It's by the original team behind Burrito Gallery.

"It's the first time anybody's going to get a peek of what we're going to be about in Five Points," Chef Eddy Escriba said.

Escriba said the public will get a sneak peek at menu items like their chicken tacos and street corn, all inspired by the food they had on their travels in Mexico. They will be at the event until 3 p.m.

GastroFest will offer foods friendly to carnivores, vegetarians and vegans. There will also be live music and a marketplace to buy goods made from local shops.

Entry to the fest is free, but there are some ticketed events.
