Jacksonville Earth Fare location to be converted into Winn-Dixie store

The San Jose Boulevard location follows the February opening of a new Winn-Dixie store in Jacksonville’s Brentwood community, which was facing food-desert status.

Southeastern Grocers Inc. plans to expand its grocery holdings in Florida with the addition of eight new Winn-Dixie stores before the end of the year, including one in Jacksonville.

The grocery chain has purchased Earth Fare stores in Jacksonville, Boynton Beach, Lakewood Ranch and Viera and Lucky’s Market stores in Gainesville, Fort Myers, Lake Mary and Melbourne. The stores will be remodeled as Winn-Dixies “with a specialized approach to provide a wide product selection and additional jobs and opportunities for local community members,” according to the company.

The local Earth Fare/Winn-Dixie is located at 11700 San Jose Blvd.

“We are committed to supporting, enriching and growing the communities we serve,” said Southeastern president and CEO Anthony Hucker. “Winn-Dixie is deeply rooted in Florida and we are proud to expand our footprint and enhance our presence.”

The new Mandarin location follows the February opening of a new Winn-Dixie store in Jacksonville’s Brentwood community, which was facing food-desert status. After community pleas, the company took over a Publix that had closed.

Southeastern will offer jobs to employees at the Earth Fare and Lucky’s Market stores that are being converted. To apply, go to a local Winn-Dixie store or go to segrocers.com/careers.
