JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Happy Grilled Cheese opened its second brick-and-mortar restaurant in Mandarin to enthusiastic patrons during the weekend.
Specializing in gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, the new restaurant and beer garden is at 9965 San Jose Blvd., in Merchant’s Walk shopping center.
Anthony Hashem, a Jacksonville native and restaurateur, launched The Happy Grilled Cheese as a food truck in 2013. Two years later, Hashem opened the first storefront restaurant at 219 N. Hogan St. in downtown Jacksonville. Both sites routinely boast long lines of customers.
The Mandarin restaurant is in a 1,200-square-foot space formerly occupied by Blue Pacific Tacos. The shopping center also boasts The Loop Pizza Grill, Carrabba’s Italian Grill and Kazu Japanese Restaurant.
The Happy Grilled Cheese’s comfort food sandwiches include the Happy Melt, featuring American, cheddar and mozzarella cheese; the Blue Collar Melt, which consists of three cheeses, fried bologna, tomato and grilled onions; and others.
Among its signature dishes are the No Hangover Melt, which is three cheeses, macaroni and cheese, pulled pork, slaw and pickles; and the Fancy Schmancy, featuring goat cheese, mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, bacon, red onion, arugula and balsamic glaze.
The Mandarin location’s hours are 11 a.m-9 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday and closed Monday.
