First Coast Foodies: Chocolate roses, cheesecake strawberries, 'heart barks' from your top Jacksonville chocolatiers

Chocolate roses, cheesecake strawberries and "heart barks." Check out what your favorite sweet shops are offering this Valentine's Day.

When you think of a local chocolatier, chances are Peterbrooke Chocolatier comes to mind.

We hate to break it to you, but this article isn't about the sweets you can find at Peterbrooke. Instead, it focuses on other local favorite sweet shops and chocolatiers that you recommended to us on Facebook.

Because it's Valentine's Day, these three shops are offering special treats for your special someone (even if you're shopping last minute).

Bleu Chocolat, Springfield

If you're thinking about buying your sweetheart some roses, may we suggest a dozen of Bleu Chocolat's finest chocolate roses?

Unique to the Springfield eatery, these decadent rose-shaped chocolates are completely new to the shop. Fans of Bleu Chocolat will also be pleased to know that they taste just as rich as their famous bonbons.

They can be made in your sweetheart's favorite chocolate (milk, dark, white). They are mounted on a plastic rose stem, then once cooled, they are placed carefully in blue tissue and placed in a red flower box, giving your sweetheart the full bouquet effect.

You can buy them individually for $5, or you can buy a half-dozen for $30 and a dozen for $60. (If you miss out on these this year, they will be available all-year long.)

Don't forget to add a box of Bleu Chocolat's bonbons with your bouquet. Mix-and-match between 17 different flavors and have them placed in a decorative Valentine's Day box. You can get nine to 24 pieces, ranging from $25 to $75.

Heavenly Chocolate Creations, Murray Hill

If candy isn't your sweetheart's thing, check out Heavenly Chocolate Creations. Sure, they sell chocolate candies, but for Valentine's Day, it's the strawberries you'll want.

Twice a year, this local staple sells Cheesecake Strawberries. If you haven't had one, they are as delectable as they sound!

They take a big strawberry and cover it with homemade New York cheesecake. Once covered, they dip the cheesecake ball into chocolate. As an added touch, they drizzle strawberry icing and sprinkles on top!

They cost $8.50 each or $16 for two. You'll have to pre-order them.

If you happen to miss out this time around, don't worry! They'll be back on Mother's Day.

Of course, you can't forget the traditional chocolate-covered strawberries, available in three different sizes (pack of six, ten and 14 or 16). But why not take it up a notch and order the gourmet strawberries, which are chocolate-dipped strawberries covered in a topping of your choice like coconut, pecans, M&Ms and more!

Sweet Pete's, Downtown Jacksonville

This year, we recommend you try their brand new, gluten-free "heart bark," which is a fully customizable heart-shaped chocolate. Nothing says "I love you more" than 8 ounces of your sweetie's favorite chocolate (milk, dark, white) topped with their favorite sweets. We promise you'll get bonus points for remembering what they like!

It only takes about 20 minutes to make, so you can get it the day you order.

(On Valentine's Day, the cut off time is 6 p.m. in store and 1 p.m. online.)

Here's how it works:

1) Choose your chocolate

2) Pick up to six toppings

3) Personalize it for your Valentine

Each heart bark costs $18, or you can go in-store and buy a pre-made one for $16. Click here to buy your Valentine a "heart bark" online.

Don't forget to also check out their limited-time Valentine's Day Apples (caramel apples covered in white chocolate and sprinkles).

We do want to highlight that the local staple, Peterbrooke, is offering something new to customers this year: Chocolate covered beer and wine bottles. You can learn more below:
