JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bellweather in Downtown Jacksonville is the latest creation from the owners of Black Sheep and Orsay where Kerri Rogers is the executive chef.
"When I see food, it’s the only thing that really gets me passionate, it’s the only thing that really gets me going; the colors, the flavors mix matching putting them together and just trying different things," Rogers said.
Whether you’re looking for a quick bite, or a place to sit back and relax, Bellweather has a menu that caters to just about every palette. But what exactly does "bellweather" mean?
"Bellweather is the lead sheep that that is in front of the pack that wears the bell, so that’s kind of what we are pushing ourselves to be Downtown, is kind of the 'Bellweather Downtown,'" Rogers said.
Popular on the menu is the Korean fried broccoli. It’s gluten-free and vegan-friendly.
"So we take the florets we dip them into the chickpea, batter-fry those off and then let those cool, portion them and then we fry them for order, which then it gets tossed in our vinaigrette," Rogers said.
The seasonal superfood salad is also hit. It comes packed with healthy ingredients.
"So we have radish, red onions, we have grape tomatoes, mushrooms, we have sugar snap peas we also have the fresh kale that goes in there and then our dressing," Rogers said
The Seared Sous Vide Chicken that comes seasoned to perfection is also a hit.
"So the chicken, when we break them down put them into bags, we put thyme into the vacuum sealed bags, we put thyme, white wine and garlic, and then we sous vide for two hours and this way they are not cooked at a rapid pace," Rogers said. "They are being slow cooked at an even temperature so its going to be a more tender piece of meat."
