JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Scott King is no stranger to the restaurant business. He started out working in hotels as a teen and has since worked his way up to being the executive chef and co-owner of his own restaurant. Bluefish Restaurant and Oyster Bar is an award-winning staple here in Avondale.

My passion is just that I love melting foods together," King said. “I love taking different types of foods different cuisines putting them together, and see what I come up with, and that’s what keeps me in it.”

Most of the menu items are infused with a New Orleans style flare.

The Crescent City fish is a local favorite.

“We lightly blackened and sauté off, its served with our cream based crescent city sauce," King said. "It also has crawfish tail meat in it, jumbo lump crab, sautéed shrimp and a little bit of jasmine rice."

Also popular is the shrimp and scallops mac and cheese.

“We use a cavatappi pasta and we have our in house cheese which is made with white cheddar, white American and parmesan cheese," he said. "Then we toss all that together with some white truffle oil."

If you are a fan of oysters, the oyster casino won’t disappoint.

"It is a bacon parmesan stuffed oyster shell that we lightly bake," King said. "We then deep fry the oysters that come out of the shell and top the whole thing with a beurre blanc sauce."

Bluefish Restaurant and Oyster Bar is located at 3551 St. Johns Ave. and is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
