The Buzz: Filter Off to host virtual dating event for Jacksonville singles

“Since the pandemic, people have really wanted connection and they’ve also gotten so comfortable now being on video,” Zach Schleien, co-founder of Filter Off said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — With the pandemic keeping people at least six feet apart, finding romance can be quite the task. But singles on the First Coast will be able to take a shot at love while practicing social distancing, during a virtual dating event.

Here’s the Buzz: Filter Off, the first video speed dating app is hosting a virtual dating experience Saturday at 8 p.m., to give locals the chance to meet new people and spark a connection.

Singles will go on three curated, two-minute dates. The app pairs users, based on their age and gender preferences.

Zach Schleien, co-founder of Filter Off says he created the app earlier this year so people could find romance, without hiding behind a screen or using heavily edited selfies – truly removing the filters and masks.

“Since the pandemic, people have really wanted connection and they’ve also gotten so comfortable now being on video,” Schleien said. “They realize how authentic and sufficient that connection really is.”

Since the event takes place on Halloween, users can wear costumes. You can find Jacksonville’s virtual dating experience under the event tab of the Filter Off app.
