The Buzz: Mekena explores the First Coast, paddleboarding

The newest member to the GMJ team is taking a look at all Florida has to offer.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — “Winter is coming,” which means if you’re wanting to get in all those summer water activities, now is your time.

Here's the Buzz:

Good Morning Jacksonville’s very own Mekena Rodriguez went out this week to experience all the First Coast has to offer.

All Wet Sports owner Andy Fraden shared his love for the water with a crash course in paddleboarding.

“You know that saying? 'Do what you love,' the kayaking, wake boarding, paddleboarding all that fun stuff,” said Fraden.

Unlike Fraden, Mekena has zero experience on the water, but that didn’t stop her from getting on the Pottsburg Creek.

“There’s really no rules. Yes, it’s stand-up paddleboarding, but a lot of times I’ll take a cooler and sit and paddle canoe-style, so it’s really wide open,” said Fraden. “The worst thing that’ll happen, you’ll get wet, so come out and give it a try honestly.”

Fraden says one of the best things about paddleboarding is being out in nature.

“Different birds and turtles you might see out there. Manatees come out here,” said Fraden.
