Deputy gifts boy with cancer an all-inclusive trip to Disney World

When a St. Johns County Sheriff's Office deputy learned Arcolia Gillard had cancer he decided to be a light to the family.

A young boy battling cancer got a welcome home party and a big surprise gift from the St. John’s County Sheriff’s Office when he returned home from treatment.

Deputy Sgt. Napolian Staggers raised enough money to send the family to Disney for a weekend with help from the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

It started when Staggers noticed Arcolia Gilliard had cut all his hair off. He asked Gillard’s mother why he chose to do that, and she explained he was battling bladder cancer.

Staggers started fundraising to send the boy to Disney World after he returned home from the Ronald McDonald House for treatment.

Once Staggers started raising money, the Make-A-Wish Foundation heard about his efforts and amplified the days and opportunities the family could enjoy.

The Gilliard’s are now planning a week-long all-inclusive vacation.
