GMJ Thursday: Stories and thoughts with Lewis Turner

Cooler weather, a vaping investigation and... prose? That's just some of the things we'll be talking about on Good Morning Jacksonville Thursday. Tune in.
  • "To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
  • And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
  • To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
  • With a sweet kernel; to set budding more."

Oh baby, that John Keats could really write a poem.

That was just a few lines from "To Autumn" Keats published in 1820. Critics of the day literally called it "the most perfect poem ever written."

Also, he had a roommate named Charlie Brown. Good grief, could Keats be the coolest dude who ever lived? Short answer: Yes.

Anyway, go read that poem in full. It conjures images of apple orchards, fall harvest, bees making bee juice 🐝 (honey) and the escape of summer.

And when Mike Prangley started going off about all the cooler temperatures we're all going to be cleansed with over the next few days, I thought to myself... "Self, it's time to get everyone in the Autumn mood."

So, whip out that denim. A hat? Sure do it. Scarf? Probably not.

No, in fact, flannel is probably still a bad idea.

Basically, as much as I want to truly believe that we'll have a Fall around here, I truly know that while it'll be cool each morning, there will probably be a part of the day that still makes the sweat bead upon my brow.

Like a lamb loud bleating from a hilly bourne, I beg the season to grab hold tight and really bring us all the 50s and 60s. Weather is going to be a big story today.

Also, Ashley Moody is about to investigate a bunch of vaping companies around the state to see if they're targeting minors.

We got some big stuff on GMJ today.

Chime in with us, send me some poetry suggestions. I'm up to my ears in Keats and could use some other stuff. Hit us up using the "#GMJ."

Have a wonderful, comfortable day.

Mahalo,
Lew
