A well-known gospel choir will take the stage at one of Jacksonville's largest venues on Sunday.
The group, Meachum L. Clarke & True Purpose, will play 'A Jacksonville Christmas' at Daily's Place on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. It will be the city's first ever major gospel concert.
Founder and director, Meachum Clarke says the performance been an annual tradition since 2010.
“I’ve always wanted to do something around the holiday time to bring everybody together,” Clarke says.
He stopped having Christmas cantatas back in 2014, but his many supporters encouraged him to revive the tradition in 2016.
“You’re going to hear a diversity of everything," he tells First Coast News. "We have about 15 of Jacksonville’s greatest artists … everything from ballads to holiday classics."
The group has been prepping for months and is excited to be the first gospel group to host a concert at Daily’s Place.
It’s a highly anticipated event and he says there’s an even greater purpose to the event than the music alone.
“The holiday season is not the best time for everybody," Clarke notes. "Some people have lost loved ones. Sometimes those memories come around the holidays. I’ve always wanted to do something around the holiday time to bring everybody together.”
A Jacksonville Christmas kicks off Sunday at Daily’s Place with doors opening at 7 p.m.
