100 percent chance of snow for downtown Art Walk

Snowshoes might be appropriate attire for Art Walk on Wednesday.

Fifteen tons of actual snow will be shipped into Jacksonville for a “North Pole Play Area” at Hemming Park from 5 to 9 p.m. during Art Walk.

While there’s a zero percent chance of it being cold enough for real snow to fall, the weather will be cooling off somewhat Wednesday with a high in the upper 60s and a low in the upper 30s.

The vendor in charge of bringing the snow to Hemming Park will bring in the shipment around 3 p.m. Temperatures should be mild enough for the snow to remain as snow during Art Walk and stick around for a couple of days before melting, according to Downtown Vision, the nonprofit that organizes the monthly Art Walk event.

People will be able to experience a virtual snowfall by picking up 3-D snowflake glasses that will be given away at the Art Walk tent in Hemming Park.

Hemming Park also will have performances by the Jacksonville Symphony Brass Quintet from 5 to 6 p.m.

Hemming Park is one of 30 stops on Art Walk between the park and The Jacksonville Landing. The Landing will have a holiday concert on its stage, and other live music and performances will take place along the Art Walk route.
