Mia O’Brien has been a Sports Anchor and Reporter at First Coast News since September 2018. She covers anything and everything sports in Northeast Florida, from the Jacksonville Jaguars to the PGA Tour, college sports to prep sports. She also can be heard on the airwaves of 1010XL and 92.5 FM, the Home of the Jaguars.
Before coming to the Sunshine State, Mia worked for three years at KGAN/KFXA in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a Sports Anchor and Reporter. During her first year in Iowa, Mia had the opportunity to cover the Hawkeyes’ 2015 Rose Bowl season as well as multiple NCAA Tournaments. The highlight of her time in Iowa was Northern Iowa’s buzzer-beater win over Texas in 2016.
Mia graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ithaca College’s Park School of Communications in May 2015, where she served as Senior Class President and one of the lead on-air talents for Ithaca College Television and 92 WICB. During her senior year, she worked as a Sports Reporter at WENY-TV in Elmira, New York.
She is originally from Freehold, New Jersey (can you name the other famous native?) and yes, it’s called Pork Roll, not Taylor Ham (much to her North Jersey-native parents’ chagrin).
