Makayla Lucero was born and raised in Denver, Colorado with her parents and two sisters. She graduated second in her class from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. While in school, Makayla interned at KKTV in Colorado Springs and WeatherNation in Parker, Colorado. After college, she moved to East Texas and became a part of the KLTV-7 weather team. While in Texas, Makayla got her first taste of hurricane season when she did live reports from Hurricane Laura in 2020. After several years of the Texas heat, Makayla was ready to cool off at the beach and moved to Jacksonville, joining the First Coast News Weather team in January 2021.
Makayla’s favorite part about being a meteorologist is getting to add science and a smile into someone’s day. She comes from a family of teachers, so it’s no surprise she loves to add a bit of education to every weather cast!
When she is not at work Makayla enjoys spending time at the beach, power lifting, baking, and reading. Her favorite thing to bake is homemade bread and she welcomes any book recommendations.
