JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Mekena Rodriguez joined First Coast News in October 2021 as a Multi-Skilled Journalist on Good Morning Jacksonville.
Mekena has always enjoyed meeting new people, talking and asking questions, but her love for TV started when she was young watching Regis and Kathie Lee with her grandma.
She decided to run with that passion and attend Bowling Green State University becoming the first person in her family to graduate from college.
The Ohio native worked at KBTX in College Station, TX for three years where she plugged into the community and worked hard to get involved both personally and professionally.
She was fortunate to travel across Texas for breaking news coverage, sharing stories as President Trump visited the U.S.-Mexico border, a mass shooter devastated the Midland-Odessa community, the Texas Legislature convened their biennial session in Austin, and Beto O’Rourke challenged Ted Cruz in a spirited fight for a U.S. Senate seat.
In Aggieland, Mekena shared the stories of the community in moments of difficulty and of triumph. While she routinely covered the education beat, she handled everything from protests to tornados with equal passion.
When she isn’t chasing the latest story, Mekena likes to spend her time with family, traveling, and come fall, watching THE Ohio State Buckeyes and on good days… the Dallas Cowboys.
Mekena is excited to call Jacksonville home and can’t wait to share the stories that are important to you.
