JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol released the name of a person who was killed during a traffic crash on eastbound J. Turner Butler Boulevard on Thursday evening.
Darryl Early, 47, of Louisiana was killed when his 1997 Toyota 4-Runner was struck from behind by 2003 Ford F-250 causing the SUV to overturn and collide with another vehicle, according the FHP.
Dann R. Lute, 53, of Jacksonville was driving the Ford F-250 in the outside lane on eastbound JTB around 5:13 p.m. when he failed to notice that traffic had come to a stop waiting to exit on to Hodges Boulevard, according to an Florida Highway Patrol report.
Lute's Ford F-250 struck the Toyota 4-Runner, causing it to roll over and strike the back of a 2001 Jaguar driven by 32-year-old Matthew G. Moberg of Jacksonville, who had minor injuries. The impact of the crash pushed the 2001 Jaguar into a 2000 Chevy Silverado driven by James M. Tittle, 51.
Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash and charges are pending.
The eastbound ramps of JTB at Hodges and Kernan Boulevards were also shut down for several hours Thursday night. Eastbound traffic on JTB was being diverted off JTB at Kernan, according to the FHP.
