Suspect flees accident, runs stop sign and crashes into a second car

A suspect driving a car rear-ended a vehicle in front of the Bolles School Monday afternoon, fled the scene, ran a red light and then crashed into another vehicle, causing severe injuries to one man and hurting a baby, authorities say.

The suspect hit a car heading south on the 7600 block of San Jose Boulevard, fled the scene and started heading southbound onto Via De La Reina Boulevard, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

At that point, the suspect hit another vehicle, disabling both cars at the corner of St. Augustine Road and Via De La Reina Blvd. This crash shut down the intersection for several hours.

Authorities say there was a passenger in the suspect's vehicle. That person had to be taken to UF Health with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Baptist Hospital along with his one-year-old. Both were hurt, but had injuries that weren't life-threatening.

Police say traffic homicide responded and is investigating.
