One killed in crash that closed I-295 for hours

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man was killed in a crash Wednesday night that shut down Northbound Interstate 295 near Old St. Augustine Road for several hours.

Allan Savillon Casana, 37, was killed when his 1999 Ford Expedition pulling a trailer, overturned and struck a light pole, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Casana was ejected from the SUV and died on scene.

The crash occurred at 7:10 p.m. on Northbound I-295, just South of Old St. Augustine Road.

Three other male passengers were traveling with Casana, Freddie Lazo, Jose L. Hernandez and 22-year-old Jose A. Hernandez Garcia, according to the FHP report.

Lazo and Hernandez were critically injured in the crash and were transported to UF Health Jacksonville for treatment. Garcia was transported to Orange Park Medical Center in serious condition.

All lanes of I-295 were shut down as protocol for trauma airlift. All lanes reopened around 12 a.m. Thursday.
