Officials push alternate routes for THE PLAYERS

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Transportation and law enforcement officials are issuing a reminder to drivers ahead of the start of The Players Championship.

Tournament play does not start until later this week, but people will begin arriving at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra once the course opens to the public on Tuesday.

Matt Rapp, executive director of The Players, told First Coast News more than 100,000 spectators are expected to attend this year.

They are encouraged to use CR 210 and Nocatee Parkway because of heavy congestion on A1A south into St. Johns County.

Shuttles from hotels in downtown Jacksonville will also be provided for $10. Free parking is available to people who attend with four or more people in one vehicle.

To access the deal, just download and print the voucher from The Player's website.

Florida's 511 traffic information system is also a resource officials are encouraging drivers to use.

You can get real-time updates about road conditions and delays on your phone or computer for free.

Delays are expected throughout the entire week, but they'll likely be especially long during the weekend.
