INTERLACHEN, Fla. - A Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy has been placed on administrative leave following a police involved shooting Sunday.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a burglary in progress around 11:00 p.m. at a home on Royal Way in Interlachen, according to a release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were tipped off that the suspect left the Royal Way home and was heading toward State Road 20.
Deputies allegedly saw a blue Dodge truck leaving the home and tried to pull the truck over, the release detailed.
Putnam County Sheriff's Office Deputy Brandon Culbreth reported that the driver of the truck attempted to flee, lost control, hit a fence and turned the truck around in Deputy Culbreth's direction.
Deputy Culbreth allegedly fired several rounds from his agency issued handgun, disabling the vehicle. The driver of the truck then fled on foot, according to the release, and has yet to be identified or taken into custody.
Deputy Culbreth has been placed on administrative leave pending an administrative review of the shooting.
An investigation is ongoing.
